Assigned Seating

The goal:
maximum fraternization

At all its events, a bailliage should encourage Chaîne camaraderie by seeing that there is maximum fraternization among its members and guests.

Assigned seating is customary at Chaîne events as it facilitates fraternization. Assigning people to specific tables and letting them arrange themselves at the tables is one possibility; the another is to assign specific seats at each table.

Special consideration:
couples

Different bailliages have different practices, and certainly various viewpoints are worth considering. On the one hand, the conversation at a table is often livelier when couples are split; on the other hand, some couples feel insecure under these circumstances. A Bailli will find such decisions easier to make if he or she knows the membership well and knows which individuals prefer to be seated as a couple.

Who decides the seating

The Bailli customarily handles seating but may delegate this task to others.

Honoring requests
by members

Encouraging members to indicate their own seating preferences is rarely desirable as it most often results in the same people requesting that they be seated with each other event after event. This defeats a Bailliage’s goal of maximum fraternization. That being said, flexibility regarding requests is always necessary.

It is always appropriate and desirable to seat members having guests with their guests.

What makes a
successful seating plan

A successful seating plan is achieved when each guests feels he or she has been honored by being seated at a given table.
